Habitat for Humanity

Edye Cable, Timothy, Jasmine and Emmanuel

Lawrence, KS January 11, 2008 – Edye Cable might have thought the angels visited her over Christmas.  Or at least it felt that way.  Jeremy Hahn, Director of Lawrence Habitat for Humanity, received a call from a couple asking him how much it would cost to build a home for the Lawrence Habitat for Humanity Community.  Hahn answered that just about $60,000 would cover the entire building of a new home.  What happened next?  Hahn said he heard the gentleman say, “I think my wife and I want to do that.”

There were two conditions.  The money would be donated by check after January 1, 2008, and the Lawrence couple would stay anonymous.  Edye Cable and her family were next in line for a newly built HFH home.  The miracle donation will finish house number sixty-nine in the “Comfort Neighborhood” across the river in North Lawrence. Their donation will allow Edye Cable’s home to continue with construction through the winter months.  The family will be able to move into their new home this spring.  “We are always excited to begin a new home for a deserving family.  This amazing gift has enabled us to build, with the Cable family, a new house filled with new hope.  We along with Edye and her family are certainly grateful for people, like this couple, in our community who give so generously.” said Hahn

Edye’s house was dedicated on Saturday, March 15, 2008.
