Where We Build
Lawrence Habitat for Humanity builds in Douglas and Jefferson Counties in Kansas. Much of our building has occurred in Lawrence as it is the polulation center for the two counties.
Our most recent development is:
The Comfort Neighborhood on Walnut Street
An exciting new neighborhood is under development for homes to be built by Lawrence Habitat for Humanity in partnership with 16 Douglas County families in need. Land was purchased on Walnut Street in north Lawrence in 2004, and the planning and development is nearing completion.
Ground-breaking took place in February, 2006, and current plans call for the first concrete slabs to be ready by the end of June. The process of turning a grass-covered area into home sites has been expensive, totaling about $520,000, but those costs have been covered, and attention has turned to building homes.
7 By 7/07!
We did it! Thanks to our dedicated sponsors and volunteers we were able to complete 7 houses by 7/07! The families now living in these houses have built a great community together. Lawrence Habitat will need to both raise funds and build houses at an unprecedented rate. One way in which your support for the Comfort Neighborhood can be demonstrated is through the purchase of a Comfort Brick to be laid in a special area of the development
