The Powell family's
home dedication ceremony took place at 215 N.
Comfort Lane on Saturday April 17th.
"It's a new beginning
for my children and I in our new home," Powell said. "It's a feeling
that I sometimes can't even explain."
As part of the
dedication, Prairie Acres Garden Club donated a small flowering tree
for the home. The 50-year-old gardening club decided to dedicate the
tree to highlight Arbor Day, which takes place April 30, as well as to
help out Habitat for Humanity, which many of the 18 members volunteer
for already.
Build Habitat homes
locally and internationally!
Habitat for Humanity
spans the earth. Now the organization is helping volunteers learn about
other cultures while building affordable housing abroad. In the Global
Village Program folks work alongside members in host communities. There
is no maximum age limit, but much of the work could be strenuous in
nature, so volunteers should be in good physical condition.
Work abroad may
include home construction, renovations, or as we have seen in early
2010 in Haiti and Chile, disaster relief. The trip abroad will consist
of hard work but also plenty of rest and free time. Every trip is
different, but volunteer teams can count on forming many friendships as
they travel, live, work, and eat with fellow volunteers and local
representatives.
There are three
featured Global Village trips coming up this spring. The first is to
Kuching, Malaysia from May 8-22, followed by a trip to Bamenda,
Cameroon from July 2-15 and then to Cluj, Romania from June 4-14.

the Global Village trips can be found here.
