Make a Lasting Impact

Giving to Lawrence Habitat for Humanity is about more than just writing a check—there are many creative ways to support our mission. Whether it’s donating real estate, stocks, a vehicle,

or even including Habitat in your estate plans,

your generosity can help build strength, stability, and self-reliance for families in need.

Explore the many ways you can give and make a difference in a way that works best for you.

  • CARS FOR HOME

    • Do you have a car that is taking up space in your garage or in your driveway? A trailer you inherited but have never got around to using? An old boat in storage? These motor vehicles don’t have to be waste of space…they can help build more homes in your community and your donation is eligible for a tax deduction.

    • Cars for Homes is Habitat’s national car donation program. The program is staffed by full-time Habitat employees who manage and monitor all activities of the program.

    • Proceeds from Cars for Homes are donated to your local Habitat affiliate.

  • CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITIES

    • A charitable gift annuity (CGA) is a lifelong contract between a donor and a 501(c)(3) qualified public charity. For further conversation, please contact the Douglas County Community Foundation or contact Chip Blaser at 785-843-8727.

  • GIFTS OF STOCK

    • When you donate stock directly to a nonprofit like Lawrence Habitat, you are eligible for a charitable deduction equal to the fair market value of the donated stock. This allows you to reduce your taxable income and save on taxes. For further conversation, please contact the Douglas County Community Foundation or contact Chip Blaser at 785-843-8727.

  • GIFTS OF LIFE INSURANCE

    • When you donate a life insurance policy to a charitable organization like Lawrence Habitat, you may be eligible for a tax deduction or you may be able to reduce your estate tax liability.  You can also name a beneficiary of your policy as a part of your legacy planning.  For further conversation, please contact the Douglas County Community Foundation or contact Chip Blaser at 785-843-8727.

  • GIFTS OF REAL ESTATE

    • A gift of real estate to a nonprofit like Lawrence Habitat is a donation of land. The donor transfers ownership of the property to the nonprofit, rather than selling it to a third party.  Nonprofits can immediately use the property or sell if they choose to. For further conversation, please contact Erika Zimmerman, Lawrence Habitat Executive Director.

  • LEGACY GIVING

    • A legacy gift allows donors to make a lasting impact on our mission by setting up a gift that will be bestowed upon our organization after the donor's passing.  For further conversation, please contact the Douglas County Community Foundation or contact Chip Blaser at 785-843-8727.

  • MATCHING GIFT

    • A matching gift to a nonprofit is a donation made by a company to match an employee's donation to a charity. Matching gift eligibility varies by company. Employers typically have guidelines about which employees and nonprofits are eligible for matching gifts and the maximum amount they'll match.

  • QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTION (for donors who are over the age of 70 1/2)

    • A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) is a tax-free donation from an IRA to a qualified charity like Lawrence Habitat.  For further conversation, please contact the Douglas County Community Foundation or contact Chip Blaser at 785-843-8727.
